Seat Remains "Safe" Despite Entry of Several Candidates

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The latest race ratings for Florida's 9th Congressional District affirm that Congressman Alan Grayson (D-Orlando) remains a heavy favorite to win re-election in 2014.

"These nonpartisan prognosticators understand the reality of this race. We are in a heavily-Democratic district. We won in record fashion in 2012. We have some of the best field and fundraising operations in the entire country. But most importantly, I work hard, pay attention, and get things done for my constituents. They want a ‘Congressman With Guts' representing them," Grayson said.

All three of the leading race rating services released a new analysis during the last two weeks. All three continue to give the 9th District race the most favorable rating a Democratic candidate can get.

Professor Larry Sabato at the University of Virginia's Center for Politics rates Grayson's seat as "Safe Democratic." As Sabato stated earlier this year, the race is not even "vaguely competitive at this point." Likewise, a June 27th analysis by the Rothenberg Political Report labels Florida's 9th Congressional District as "Safe Democrat." Finally, the Cook Political Report rates the Grayson seat as "Solidly Democratic."

The strength of Grayson's race ratings is more impressive considering that several new candidates entered the race since the last rankings. The ratings confirm that none of the declared candidates in the race poses any credible opposition to Grayson.

Congressman Alan Grayson is a Democrat from Orlando. He represents Florida's heavily-Democratic 9th Congressional District, which includes southern Orange County, Osceola County and eastern Polk County.
