Grayson Presents Autographed “Green Day” Guitar to Lucky Donor

A small but meaningful contribution to the Grayson for Congress campaign turned into a valuable and unique memento for an Orlando woman this afternoon. Judith Wilson won a blue Fender Squier Stratocaster guitar autographed by the members of the rock group Green Day. Wilson won a national drawing earlier this month.

“Alan Grayson has always been one of my favorite congressmen. He’s sharp. He’s right on the money when he says things,” said Wilson.

Like many of the more than 100,000 contributors to the campaign, Wilson gave a small amount; what she could afford. The average contribution to the Grayson campaign is about $40. “I made a sacrifice to do it because I don’t have a job. But it is worth it have him win,” said Wilson.

Alan Grayson presented the guitar to Wilson Friday afternoon at an event with Assistant Democratic Leader, Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.). More than 1,200 people across the country entered to win the guitar by making a donation to the campaign, or sending an email to a special email address. The contest raised more than $17,000.

“Ms. Wilson received the guitar, but everybody who joined in the campaign is a winner like her, because they helped to promote what they are trying to do, which is to establish justice, equality and peace as the goals of our government,” said Grayson, after presenting the guitar to Wilson.

The contest itself was democracy in action. Grayson gave his supporters the choice of several valuable and unique prizes, including the platinum records awarded to Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra and the B-52s. Grayson’s supporters voted, and the Green Day autographed guitar received the most votes.

Congressman Grayson wants to thank Howie Klein for donating the guitar to the campaign. Klein is the former Warner Reprise Records Chief, a renowned progressive blogger (Down With Tyranny!), and a leader of the Blue America PAC.
