PolitiFact Confirms Grayson is House’s Top Small Donor Fundraiser

April 27, 2015
The PolitFact Florida website today rated as “True” the claim made by Congressman Alan Grayson, (FL-09), that he’s the top ‘small donor’ fundraiser.
Grayson shared this fact with Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman earlier this month, when she asked if the Orlando congressman would run for U.S. Senate.
As PolitiFact reporter Amy Sherman noted, the question and answer came as “Democratic Party activists and leaders consider their best path to winning that seat, [and] Grayson wants to remind them of his populist fundraising.”
"I’m the only member of the House of Representatives who raised most of his campaign funds in the last election from small contributions of less than $200," he said.
The Federal Election Commission considers any donation of $200 or less to be a small campaign contribution. According to The Center for Responsive Politics, Grayson led all members of the House among these grassroots-level political gifts.
Grayson said he will apply that same grass-roots fundraising strategy in his run for the Senate. And unlike every other candidate in the race, he will refuse to rely on deep-pocketed donors to get his message out.
